Assassin’s Creed Shadows Dominates US Sales, Becomes 2025’s #2 Bestseller

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC three weeks ago, and for every week since its launch, it has been the best-selling game in the US, according to data from Circana.

According to executive director and video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella at Circana, shared on BlueSky that Shadows has held the number-one position for weekly game sales in the United States since its March 20, 2025, release. Piscatella also highlighted that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the second-best-selling game in the US for 2025, trailing only Capcom’s long-anticipated monster slaying sequel Monster Hunter Wilds, a tent pole title that has been cleaning up at the start of the year.

“Fun fact… Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has been the best-selling game in the US for all three of its first weeks, according to Circana’s Retail Tracking Service (latest data through April 5th),” Piscatella wrote on BlueSky. “It currently ranks #2 for the year, behind Monster Hunter: Wilds.” Only two days after its release, Ubisoft disclosed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has surpassed 2 million players globally, selling over one million copies on launch day alone. A week later, Ubisoft announced that the game topped 3 million players.

These milestones are a big win for Ubisoft, and 2024 is one the company will want to quickly forget, having taken huge financial hits with both Star Wars Outlaws and Skull & Bones failing to make a commercial dent. The expectations were high for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, making its success as important as ever.

Moreover, Ubisoft has undergone a massive restructuring, with flagship franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six being brought under a new subsidiary in which Tencent is a minority partner. The details of the subsidiary’s plans are unclear, and there are indications that layoffs could be on the horizon as the company adjusts. Hopefully, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ success can help mitigate some of the challenges Ubisoft is facing.
