Assassins Creed Mirage will transport you to 9th-century Baghdad, where you will be able to experience Basim’s Genesis narrative. Mirage is without a doubt one of the most anticipated forthcoming Assassin’s Creed games, thanks to its smaller structure and gameplay style that is more akin to the original Altar and Ezio adventures.
Mirage appears to be a return to the series’ beginnings, with Ubisoft toning back the massive expanse of the open worlds seen in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in favor of something smaller and more intimate in scale. The emphasis has shifted back to social stealth, parkour, and acrobatic assassinations, which is exactly what we want.
At launch, three Assassins Creed Mirage editions will be offered. The Standard Edition will cost $50/€50; the Deluxe Edition, which contains Prince of Persia-inspired DLC, will cost $60/€60; and the special Collector’s Case, which includes a 32cm Basim figurine, map of Baghdad, exclusive steel book, and more, will cost $150/€150. The location of Assassins Creed Mirage is 9th Century Baghdad, with the period beginning in 861, a few decades before the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
According to artistic director Jean-Luc Sala, Baghdad was practically in the center of the world at the time, and a key place for knowledge, art, innovation, science, commerce, and power. Because 9th century Baghdad was effectively destroyed five centuries later, Ubisoft used historical material and other towns from the time to rebuild Baghdad as accurately as possible.
The Assassins Creed Mirage gameplay will return the series to its roots, with social stealth, rapid parkour, and agile assassinations. According to Ubisoft Bordeaux, there’s a little bit of every Assassin’s Creed game in Mirage, and players can look forward to going back to the roots of the series while experiencing a modern take on gameplay and iconic features from the early games. This limited focus, especially when contrasted with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will be supplemented with a narrative-driven approach to growth and a smaller map to explore.
The plot of Assassins Creed Mirage is said to be more linear than in previous games in the franchise. According to Mirage’s narrative director Sarah Beaulieu, the narrative structure is much closer to the first Assassin’s Creed games, in the sense that it is more driven and linear than what players experience in the latest AC games.”
While we’ll still be able to explore and experiment, deciding which order to tackle assassination missions in, Beaulieu says Ubisoft Bordeaux wants Mirage’s tale to have a very intense and condensed narrative with a clear beginning and end.
Assassins Creed Mirage is probably one of the most interesting new games of 2023, and we won’t have to wait long to get our hands on this upcoming Ubisoft title.
The release date for Assassins Creed Mirage is October 5, 2023. The game was planned to be released on October 12, but Ubisoft opted to push it back by a week. Essentially, this means you’ll be joining Basim’s quest sooner than planned, which can only be a good thing.
When Assassins Creed Mirage releases on October 5, it will be available for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. The game will also be available on PC through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store.
