Asian Para Games 2023: The much-anticipated Asian Para Games are just around the corner, set to kick off from October 22nd to October 28th, 2023. Hangzhou, China, is all set to host this spectacular event, following the conclusion of the Asian Games. Get ready to witness the power and spirit of athletes with disabilities from 45 countries as they compete across 22 sporting events.

Here’s everything you need to know: Asian Para Games 2023

The fourth edition of the Asian Para Games will commence on October 22nd and conclude on October 28th, 2023. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 22nd, marking the official start of the event.

This year’s event boasts participation from over 38,000 athletes, representing 45 countries. Athletes will compete in an impressive lineup of 22 sporting disciplines.

Before the grand opening ceremony, some sporting events will begin on October 19th, 2023. The early-starting sports include Wheelchair Basketball, Badminton, and Lawn Bowls.

Asian Para Games 2023: Full Schedule and India’s Grand Contingent

India is sending its largest-ever contingent of para-athletes to the Asian Para Games, totaling 209 athletes. The contingent includes 196 men and 113 women, competing across 17 sporting disciplines. The team will be led by prominent para-athletes, including Para Badminton star Pramod Bhagat, Sukant Kadam, Bhavina Patel (Table Tennis), Avni Lekhara (Shooting), and Sumit Antil (Javelin Throw).

The Para Games will feature a remarkable 566 gold medal events across 22 sports, including new additions such as Taekwondo, Canoeing, and Go. Notable returns to the Games’ program are Blind Football and Rowing.

Hangzhou, China, is the proud host of the Asian Para Games for the second time. The city previously hosted the event in 2010. The Games were initially scheduled for October 9 to 15, 2022, but were postponed to 2023 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the week-long sporting extravaganza concludes, the closing ceremony will take place on October 28th at the Hangzhou Sports Park Stadium.

India’s participation in 17 disciplines includes five sports that are making their debut at the Para Games: Canoeing, Blind Football, Lawn Bowls, Rowing, and Taekwondo.
