Some wins deserve more than a medal ceremony. On October 3, India’s men’s hockey team beat Malaysia 5-1 in Aichi-Nagoya to become the first nation ever to defend the Asian Games hockey title. Now Hockey India has backed that moment with real money.

### What Hockey India Announced?

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey congratulated the squad and confirmed the cash rewards. Here’s the breakdown:

| Category | Cash Prize |
| --- | --- |
| Each player | ₹11 lakh |
| Each support staff member | ₹5.5 lakh |

The staff reward matters. Coaches, analysts and trainers rarely get the spotlight, yet their work shows up on the scoreboard.

### Match Snapshot

| Detail | Info |
| --- | --- |
| Final score | India 5, Malaysia 1 |
| Venue | Aichi-Nagoya, Japan |
| Scorers | Harmanpreet Singh (2), Jugraj Singh, Hardik Singh (penalty stroke), Shilanand Lakra |
| Olympic berth | Direct entry to LA 2028 |
| Men’s Asian Games golds | 5 (1966, 1998, 2014, 2023, 2026) |

Captain Harmanpreet Singh led from the front with a brace. The win also sealed India’s ticket to the Los Angeles Olympics.

### A Double-Gold Edition

The men weren’t alone. India’s women beat China in the final, ending a 44-year wait for Asian Games hockey gold. It was the first time both Indian teams won gold at the same edition.

Hockey also joined cricket and kabaddi as a team sport where India has won double gold. If you like the history, the [Asian Games hockey record](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_hockey_at_the_Asian_Games) on Wikipedia shows how rare back-to-back titles are.

### Why This Win Feels Different?

Winning once is brilliant. Winning again, with the pressure of being defending champions, is a different test. This squad handled it, and the Olympic qualification means the celebration doesn’t have to wait four more years.
