Indian head coach Rahul Dravid tested covid positive for which the BCCI stated that VVS Laxman would be taking charge of the Indian team during the Asia Cup 2022 held in UAE. The head coach tested positive on Tuesday. Earlier Laxman was the head coach of India vs Zimbabwe series, now he’s ready to guide the squad for Asia Cup. He traveled to Dubai this Wednesday. After his test comes negative he’ll join the Indian squad.

 “Mr VVS Laxman, Head Cricket, NCA will be the interim Head Coach for Team India (Senior Men) for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup 2022, to be played in the UAE. Mr Laxman, who traveled with the Indian team that played the ODI series in Zimbabwe will oversee the team’s preparation in the absence of Mr Rahul Dravid, who tested positive for COVID-19 before the team’s departure to the UAE.Mr Dravid will join the team once he tests negative and is cleared by the BCCI Medical Team ”– a BCCI statement said

A final decision on Rahul Dravid’s participation will be taken on Thursday after testing him for the second time. Dravid was supposed to leave for Dubai but since he tested covid positive he won’t be physically present to guide the team.

The BCCI has made all the travel arrangements for VVS Laxman who at the moment is in Zimbabwe. The logistics team is working hard to make sure that his travel journey goes smoothly.

India is considered to be the most successful team of the Asia Cup and the team will try to win the trophy for the eighth time. In this situation, Dravid’s absence is a huge blow for the team.

VVS Laxman in Rahul Dravid’s will be announced the head coach once again, officially. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and the other team members have reached UAE prior to the start of the tournament. The much-anticipated match between Pakistan and India is set to be played on August 28.

The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will commence on August 27 and continue till September 11.
