Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder, and CEO of Paytm, believes that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is ‘ripe for innovation’ and has the potential to change how we live our lives. Sharma wrote in a letter to the shareholders, “I envision AGI as something like smartphones 10 years ago – incredibly ripe for innovation and potent to enter into daily life at scale. Paytm will be at the forefront of this transition as a technological business.

“From India, we are dedicated to creating a technological firm of the highest caliber. The technical teams at Paytm, according to Sharma, had observed some “encouraging results” in the AGI field. I think there will be more chances to improve business and AI-first solutions in 2023 as early-stage AGI becomes more prevalent.” On May 5, the company released its earnings, showing excellent revenue growth across its loan distribution, merchant subscription, and digital payments businesses. Consolidated quarterly losses also decreased to less than a fourth of what they were a year earlier.
One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, reports an FY23 AGI demand of $1 billion in revenue. AGI and AGI-based solutions have experienced a sharp increase in demand ever since OpenAI, a conversational chatbot, launched last year. AGI is being used by startups all over the world to either create their own businesses or integrate ChatGPT into their services and applications.
According to a March report from the news agency Reuters, US financial giant Stripe was starting to incorporate OpenAI’s most recent GPT-4 artificial intelligence model into its digital payment processing and other technologies. A San Francisco-based company is currently developing 14 GPT-4 prototypes. The head of information at Stripe at the time, Emily Sands, had referred to Stripe. Startups in India are also investigating their options with AGI, and MakeMyTrip.
The founder and chairman of MakeMyTrip, Deep Kalra, remarked, “The new model of AI that we’re all aware of — generative AI,” while speaking at the Times Network India Digital Fest. The generative model is complex, but it can summarise the reviews we receive intelligently and in a way that is very simple to grasp, which will aid in our effort to create material in an engaging way. Therefore, we are constructing those fundamental capabilities and will cooperate with the major stakeholders to do so.”
