Atletico Madrid are close to signing Artem Dovbyk from Girona as their Alvaro Morata replacement. The Ukrainian had a brilliant season this past year, scoring 24 goals to win the Pichichi Award and help his side qualify for the Champions League.
He has a release clause worth €40 million in his contract with Girona, and Madrid are close to triggering it. They have already reached an agreement on personal terms and are optimistic about getting the deal over the line soon.

After losing both Memphis Depay and Alvaro Morata this summer, Diego Simeone is in need of a new striker to play regularly. While Antoine Griezmann can certainly fill that role, Joao Felix seems likely to leave as well.
And the circumstances, Dovbyk seems like a great signing considering he has already shown he can deliver in Spain. Several clubs from Italy and beyond were interested in signing the Ukrainian, but are behind Atletico in the race.
The transfer is not complete yet, but the Rojiblancos are likely to get the deal over the line soon. But to do that, they must reach an agreement with Girona over the payment of the release clause.
