Arsenal are interested in signing Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares this summer. The Portuguese club have set a price tag worth €15 million for the player, but Arsenal have made an initial bid of €7-8 million. The amount demanded is expected to be arranged through negotiations involving add-ons.
Renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano indicates that Arsenal have offered the player a contract until June 2026, and negotiations with his club need to be sorted out before anything substantial can be declared. The player dreams of playing in the Premier League and is willing to make the switch to Arsenal. Personal terms will not be an issue in this transfer.
The 21-year-old graduated from the Benfica academy and has been playing first-team football with them officially since 2019. Incidentally, Transfermarkt indicates that the player has an €88 million release clause in his contract, but Arsenal don’t seem to be taking up that option.
Along with the Portuguese league, the player has experience of the Europa League as well, which will be beneficial considering Arsenal don’t seem anywhere close to the Champions League right now.
They only recently announced a contract extension for first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney and Tavares will, in all likelihood, be the backup option for the Scottish international.
Arsenal are also interested in a centre-back this summer and are reportedly close to Ben White of Brighton. They will not be competing in Europe this upcoming season and will be able to focus their attention on securing a higher finish this time around.
