Arsenal fans were left broken hearted after Rodri snatched an injury time winner for Manchester City to extend their winning run. The reigning champions now have an 11-point lead at the top, while Liverpool and Chelsea battle it out between themselves tomorrow.
What went down in the Arsenal vs Manchester City game
Bukayo Saka fired Arsenal in front, netting the first Premier League goal of 2022 around the half-hour mark. The Gunners outplayed Pep Guardiola’s men during the first half and looked very confident. They headed into the tunnel with a one-goal advantage.
However, things changed dramatically in the second half. The London club were unlucky on several occasions, with several refereeing decisions going against them. Gabriel Martinelli could’ve helped Arsenal have two goals to their name, but missed in front of an open net. And that error proved to be costly afterwards.
Riyad Mahrez would make no mistake from the spot, as he converted a penalty earned by Bernardo Silva. Shortly after, Gabriel Magalhaes was sent off for two unnecessary challenges in a very short span of time. The man advantage also helped City win the game in the end.
The Gunners would then sit compact in their shape, and tried to make it difficult for City to find a breakthrough. Just when fans had thought that they would at least hold City to a draw, Rodri struck the ball into the bottom corner to earn all three points.
