Chelsea will receive a £4 million fee from London rivals Fulham for Armando Broja, as part of a clause inserted into the deal. According to the agreement, if Broja didn’t start ten games until the end of the season, the Cottagers would be forced to pay the £4 million fee as compensation.
The Albanian was not named in Fulham’s squad to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, which means that it is now impossible for Broja to start ten games by the end of the season. As a result, Chelsea will benefit financially, although it is a small amount in question.
Chelsea to receive financial boost from Armando Broja deal
“It’s just a technical decision, nothing more. Striker to start (Muniz) and a striker on the bench (Jimenez). We needed a second striker and decided to go for Raul. It was a really difficult decision, no doubts about it,” Marco Silva explained when asked about Armando Broja’s absence from the squad for the Tottenham game.
Fulham went on to win the game, and Muniz repaid his manager’s trust in him by scoring a brace as his side beat the visitors 3-0.
Broja’s future will be determined at the end of the season when he returns to Chelsea from his loan spell. The 22-year-old could be sold, but only time will tell if the Blues are still going to take a chance on him owing to their striker crisis and need to comply with FFP rules.
