Tottenham have reached an agreement with Argentine club Rosario Central to sign Alejo Veliz by activating his £13 million release clause. The youngster will be the latest addition for the club this summer after signing Manor Solomon, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven.
He has had an impressive year so far, scoring 11 goals in 23 appearances for Rosario Central. He made a name for himself by scoring a decisive header against rivals Newell’s Old Boys in the derby, after which he started playing for the senior team more regularly.
Alejo Veliz to sign for Tottenham imminently
The youngster is exceptional in the air, having scored six out of 19 goals with his head for Rosario. On the other hand, all of his three goals at the U-20 World Cup were headers as well. As a result, he could be a menacing presence for the team during set piece situations.
But, the likelihood of him replacing Harry Kane should his move to Bayern Munich go through is low. In the event that the England captain stays, Alejo Veliz would work as his understudy rather than his replacement.
With Richarlison also at the club, it seems unlikely that the teenager will be made first-choice just yet. But, if he is able to outscore the Brazilian after making the move, he might have a strong case to become the number one pick for Ange Postecoglou.
The Lilywhites have reinforced their squad significantly this summer, and are preparing for a change of fortunes under their new manager. But, the departure of Harry Kane would be a significant blow, even if they receive a massive fee for the striker.
