Argentina are through to the Copa America 2024 final, defeating Canada 2-0 in the semifinals. The two sides met earlier in the group stage of the tournament, and it was the same result in favour of the defending champions.
Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for his side, after riding a challenge from Moise Bombito to score from a 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper. Shortly after the half time break, Lionel Messi scored his first goal of the tournament by flicking in a pacey shot from Enzo Fernandez.

Messi was named the player of the match after his goal, and his all-round play. The Inter Miami forward has been far from his superhuman best this time around, but his team has stepped up to ensure that Argentina are in the final to defend their title.
Canada had nine shots in the game, the same as Argentina, but their chances were not of the highest quality. In a short period in charge, Jesse Marsch has helped the Canucks qualify for the semifinals of the Copa America, but they just weren’t enough to overcome the World Cup winners.
Now, Argentina will face Uruguay or Colombia in the final, for a chance to make it two Copa America trophies in a row.
