Apuia will be heading to Mohun Bagan SG from Mumbai City FC, as originally revealed by TOI’s Marcus Mergulhao. The midfielder has reportedly handed in a transfer request, forcing the Islanders to let him go even though they weren’t keen on the transfer.

The official documents are yet to be signed to confirm the transfer, but it makes the midfielder the first new signing for the Mariners this summer. And he is joining an already stacked midfield consisting of Anirudh Thapa, Sahal Abdul Samad, Joni Kauko and Deepak Tangri.

Apuia heading to Mohun Bagan SG after months of speculation

The midfielder has been linked with a move to one of the Kolkata giants for a long time now. Both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan SG were reportedly trying to make the deal happen. But, the league winners have won the race and have persuaded the player to join them.

Apuia is highly rated for his technical ability on the ball, as well as his composure defensively. His profile is exactly what was missing for the Mariners, as he is equally adept at playing passes and defending from midfield.

Now, Mumbai City FC will have to move wisely in the transfer market to recruit a reliable defensive midfielder to replace one of their top players in the middle of the park.

How many years did Apuia have left on his MCFC contract?

Two years, it ran till 2026
