Apple’s upcoming 2022 MacBook Air to support the same notch as M1X MacBook Pro models

We have heard previous rumors and have even seen an alleged picture showing a notch on the M1X MacBook Pro models. And now the rumor has spread like wildfire and there are even speculations that the 2022 MacBook Air would sport the same notch.

This new successor to the M1 MacBook Air is said to arrive with a design change and will include some of the most significant cosmetic changes that one could describe. According to a tipster who goes by the name of ‘ty98’ on v2ex, the 2022 MacBook Air’s design will change.

However, for now, there is no information provided as to why Apple would choose this route, but we feel that it would have to do with more than just adding a regular aesthetic change. Apple doesn’t do anything without a reason take for example when the iPhone X launched in 2017. the device featured a notch to accommodate the TrueDepth camera and other components necessary to equip the handset with Face ID capabilities.

Most probably if the notch is being added to the 2022 MacBook Air then it might be to give it the same functionality. We might even be lucky if Apple decided to retain Touch ID to give users multiple ways to access their notebooks. The tipster also claims that the upcoming MacBook Air will look better than its direct predecessor as Apple is rumored to get rid of the wedge shape in favor of something better.

There are various speculations regarding the upcoming portable Mac’s and rumors claim that they might come with a lighter chassis, a MagSafe charging port, and a couple of USB 4 ports. We could also expect a mini-LED screen upgrade, and finally, the best feature which is expected to arrive is that Apple’s next-generation M2 chipset will be powering the new device.
