Apple could be planning to hold an event in October 2024 to announce the new iPad and Mac lineups, which would come as no surprise since it will be Apple’s fourth October event in five years. Apple had a virtual event last October 30 to unveil its new models of the MacBook Pro and iMac equipped with M3 series chips.
More About the Upcoming Apple Event in October
Apple will debut its first M4 Macs and new low-cost iPads at an October event, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in his latest Power On newsletter. That means we should see the M4 series updates to the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini this year; followed by new MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro throughout 2025. Some of the M4 Macs are already reportedly shipping from factories. Gurman expects the following updates at the October event:
- MacBook Pro: The 14-inch and 16-inch refreshed MacBook Pro models with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. This is something we may not see change until 2026, in the form of an OLED screen and a thinner design. Apple had last re-designed the iMac in 2021, and models with M3 chips were rolled out in October 2022.
- iMac: The iMac will also get the M4 chip, It seems unlikely the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad will make a Lightning to USB-C transition this year.
- Mac Mini: The Mac mini should get updated from an M1 chip to a new M4 and M4 Pro, there are rumors it will see an Apple TV-like redesign. The new model is anticipated to omit USB-A ports.
- iPad mini: Gurman predicts the unveiling of a seventh-generation iPad mini with enhancements such as a faster chip, improved cameras, a fix for “jelly scrolling,” Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and new color options. The current iPad mini was released in September 2021.
- Entry-level iPad: The event may also feature new, lower-end iPads, potentially including a new iPad 11 model.
