Apple’s New HomePod to Feature 6-7 Inch OLED Display in 2025

Apple has a new, third-generation HomePod in the works and it will come with a 6- to 7-inch OLED display, according to a report from the Korean outlet SE Daily. For the new HomePod, Apple will be purchasing its OLED panels from a fourth-place Chinese display manufacturer behind the likes of BOE and CSOT, called Tianma, according to the report. A “HomePod with a display has been mentioned innumerable times in recent years, with various smart-home products said also to be in development by Apple, including one with an iPad-like display and integrated camera, and another with an iPad-like screen on a robot arm.

Third-Generation Apple HomePod to Feature OLED Display, Launch Expected in 2025

Last month Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicated that such devices will not arrive until 2025 at the earliest, though analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expected a new HomePod with a display to appear sometime following WWDC 2025, potentially in Q3. The timeline has slid; Kuo had initially forecast a 2024 release. Kuo additionally asserted that Tianma is set up to give the boards, however, did not determine that they would be OLED. Until this discovery, it was believed that Apple would use a lower-quality LCD display for the new HomePod.

The third-gen HomePod is obviously expected to focus even more on smart home support — potentially signaling a shift in strategy for the product line. Apple’s move to strengthen its market presence in the smart home space follows recent reports suggesting the company is working on an all-in-one home management device. The device would reportedly have a square-shaped display, complete with thick bezels and a hemispherical base reminiscent of the iMac G4.

Early estimates for new HomePod shipments are conservative, with Kuo predicting that 500,000 units may be sold in the second half of 2025. This means although the device will be a very exciting addition to Apple’s smart home range, its release could be a slow one.
