Apple Silicon for next-gen Macs announced at WWDC 2020

The tech industry has seen ripples of change caused by the semiconductor war. We have seen many changes happening in the silicon manufacturing market. With Nvidia’s acquisition of ARM to Intel releasing its 10nm process 11th gen processors, many of the semiconductor manufacturing giants have increased their game.

Now, let’s talk about the world’s largest and richest tech industry, Apple. We have seen Apple releasing its own in-house manufactured A13 Bionic, which is a beast among mobile semiconductors. It has outperformed all the established players in the mobile SoC market and took the throne as the fastest mobile processor.

Rumours have been making rounds that its own in-house silicon powers the Cupertino giant plans on releasing all its future MacBook. The new MacBook’s will sport the new processor based on ARM architecture and will be released in the fourth quarter of 2020, but it looks like we may still have to wait till 2021 for the new MacBook’s arrival.

But a leak has just finally given us a small glimpse of what the new chips are really offering.

A leaker namely Komiya twitted saying that the Cupertino giant now has two chips in the store, and they will feature eight and twelve cores, respectively. As of now, any confirmation on the actual configuration of these cores is not yet known.

Since the new SoC will be powering the new MacBook’s we expect the silicon’s to pack more punch to uphold the MacBook legacy. Therefore, an Ultra-high-performance, high-performance and efficiency combined with numbers like 2+2+4 and 4+4+4 are necessary.

The leaker has also said that Apple will be launching a sixteen-core version of this new processor by next year.

We also know that the renowned Apple analyst, Ming Cho Kuo has speculated that the new silicon will debut alongside apples 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Whether all this speculations and rumors are true, we have to wait till next year to receive any official confirmation. But it would be interesting to see apple trying to capture the throne of notebook SoC market.
