Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro might not get the M1X treatment

Apple will soon be launching its new MacBook Pro models which will be powered by the new silicon which the Cupertino giant is currently developing. Recently we have heard a lot of leaks and new rumors about the upcoming MacBook Pro models.

But a recent tipster has suggested that the upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro will sport the same 5nm M1 chip as the current-generation models. so we can conclude that there won’t be M1X present in the 16-inch MacBook Pro model.

According to a tweet by DuanRui, there might be no performance difference between the 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro and current-generation M1 Macs since they both might be using the same silicon. The M1X has been listed as a powerful 12-core part before, but according to the tipster, the upcoming MacBook Pro will have an 8-core Apple Silicon.

Earlier we also saw the reports that the 16-inch MacBook Pro and the 14.1-inch MacBook Pro will feature redesigns inspired by the iPhone 12’s flat edges. but according to DuanRui, the 16-inch machine will have a ‘narrower’ screen frame.

The recently reported desktop-class 5nm A14T chip as well as the M2  will most likely be reserved for the Apple Silicon iMac, not the 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro. Despite having sufficient cooling space to include a powerful chip, the 16-inch MacBook Pro will still be excluded from having its performance upgraded by the new Silicon.

It is said that the new MacBook Pro 16 equipped with Apple M1 has basically the same appearance as the previous generation, but the screen frame will be narrower.

Apple’s M1 is a powerful chip, which managed to impress almost everyone. But the chip is for ultra-portable Macs, and since the 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro does not fit that description, it deserves more powerful silicon. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, we should expect the new MacBook Pro models in the second half of this year, so there is not a whole lot of waiting remaining. Hopefully, Apple might reconsider its decision and provide the 16-inch MacBook Pro with its M1X silicon.

Why not two versions of the MacBookPro16? One with M1, which would be competitive in performance with the top end of the present MBP16. That seems to be the consensus of current reviews of the M1 to date. Then a M1X version at a significantly higher price with significantly more CPU and GPU power for high intensity programs. The M1X as a portable professional level video editor/video animator workstation. i.e. a prosumer M1 and a professional M1X.
