Recently, reports have surfaced indicating that Apple‘s forthcoming MacBook Pro, equipped with the highly anticipated M4 chipset has entered formal development. However, the mere commencement of this process does not necessarily imply an immediate launch of either the new SoC or the portable Mac. Sources suggest that an unveiling might occur sometime in 2025.
The Upcoming Apple M4
A fresh roadmap has now emerged, shedding light on the potential timeline for the release of this new silicon. If Apple manages to overcome hurdles during its development process there’s a chance that the M4 could be unveiled early as the first quarter of 2025.
Back in October 2023, Apple launched the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chipsets. The only remaining model yet to be released is the M3 Ultra, expected to power upcoming Mac Pro and Mac Studio models. While specific details about the M4 chipset are scarce Canalys has hinted at a debut in 2025. However, there might be delays pushing the announcement to the quarter of that year due to factors. On another front, Qualcomm is gearing up to introduce competition in this sector.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chipset is set to fuel a range of laptops this year and is also being developed for less powerful versions. The highest tier model features a 12-core design while two other models with 10 and 8 cores are, in progress. With expectations that the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite will outperform the M3 in terms of core performance, the lower spec versions could cater to more budget-friendly devices potentially challenging Apple’s MacBook Air lineup.
Both the M4 and Snapdragon X Elite chipsets are likely to integrate AI-driven functionalities. Furthermore, Intel and AMD are preparing to launch their models for the release of Apple M4. We will keep you updated with the developments, in the field of computing technology. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
