Apple’s M2 chipset to enter mass production by the end of April

The Cupertino giant stunned everyone in 2020 with the announcement of ditching Intel over its own M1 chipset that is a lot more powerful and efficient. After that, Apple uses M1 wherever they can use it, be it MacBooks or iMac and now even on iPad Pro.

The versatility of this chip and an entire shift to the ARM architecture has helped Apple to do things we could have never expected. Things like Neural Engine, ISP, and many security features have never been explored on a traditional x86 chip, so with the success of M1, Apple isn’t stopping now.

So, it is expected that Apple will continue this momentum in 2021. The new rumoured M2 chipset and the confirmation from Nikkei Asia confirm the chipset is ready to arrive on newer Macs.

Their report says the shipment of these new chips could begin as early as July for use in MacBooks scheduled to go on sale in the second half of this year.

TSMC will again remain the main supplier of Apple and the chip is likely to build on a more refine 5nm+ process or N5P. The production could take at least three months and so as the mass production starts by the end of this month, in line with the availability of the new iMac and iPad Pros.

So, with this good news, Apple fans can expect the successor of the M1 chipset at the same time as last year for the announcement of the new M2 chip. Already Apple has put a lot of efforts into transitioning from Intel to its in-house silicon, and it seems it has surely paved off; a lot of expectations do surround its 2021 lineups as well.
