The day Apple started incorporating its custom chips in its products way back in 2020, was the day when the company embarked on the road that will bring about a surge in the demand of the company. The release of its M1 marked the golden even for Apple and its products. With its upscale in performance and power efficiency, Apple’s M1-powered products became a favourite amongst its customers, particularly the M1 MacBook Air.

According to recent reports, the M1 MacBook Air model has helped the company shipped 6.5 million laptops in Q3 2021. reports further indicate that a total of around 66.8 million laptops were shipped in Q3, 2021. this marks an 8 percent increase compared to the same quarter last year.

The Cupertino giant also reports a 10 percent increase year-over-year and the device has helped the company to acquire a 10 percent market share in this category. The M1 MacBook Air launched at $999, and it is regularly available at a discount, attracting a hefty sales momentum amongst students who want performance from their laptops when required but also a device that will stay powered on for hours despite offering desirable performance.

“The commercial customers’ upgrade kicked in as some employees returned to in-person work with the target to improve productivity. Education demand (including consumer) was better in the developed market as back to university discounts gave consumers a good reason to upgrade now rather than later. It’s worth noting that the shortage of components and rising prices for manufacturing and freight costs also delayed some orders for many vendors. In other words, shipments could have been even higher.”

The fact remains that Apple trails way behind established players like Dell, HP and, Lenovo. Dell recently reported its biggest jump in notebook shipments, seeing a massive 50 percent year-over-year growth, and shipped 12.2 million units.

However, with the advent of the M2 MacBook Air next year, we could see Apple taking over more of the market share from its competitors.
