Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max’s third-party app animations only limited to 60Hz

Apple announced its most awaited iPhone yet and the newly introduced iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max come with a 120Hz ProMotion display. And this update was not made available on last year’s ‘Pro’ models. However, it’s being revealed that some of the third-party apps are unable to take full advantage of this feature.

According to sources, the developer of the Apollo Reddit client Christian Selig has found that his iPhone 13 Pro is not what he wanted to be expected and discovered that third-party app animations were limited to 60Hz.

He states that this limitation was put in place by Apple to conserve battery life since none of the iPad Pro models with 120Hz ProMotion displays exhibit this kind of behaviour, and all the apps run buttery-smooth.

The company’s apps run at 120Hz, hence we can assume that this limitation is only applied to third-party programs. Apple introduced the 120Hz ProMotion displays on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max this year thanks to the use of LTPO OLED panels. If the screen is displaying a static image or is dormant, then the refresh rate remails at 10Hz to save battery life and will raise its maximum limit to allow users to experience a smooth UI or run a game.

We assume that Apple might decide to remove this limitation through a software update, if not, then millions of iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max users would be bummed out that they upgraded to the newer and more expensive models just to not get what was promised.
