Within the Wallet app on iPhone, iOS 18 includes a variety of changes, such as improvements to Apple Pay, Apple Cash, event tickets, and more. Apple provided a brief rundown of features being added to the Wallet app on iOS 18, with curtailed detail compared to its presser or WWDC 2024 presentations.
New Apple Wallet Features on iOS 18
Redesigned Event Tickets
Event tickets in the Wallet app on iOS 18 gain a new look. That information now also includes venue maps, local weather forecasts, handpicked Apple Music playlists for gigs, and much more.
Live Activities Integration
Tickets for events are now integrated with Live Activities, and you will be able to see the seats you have booked on your lock screen or the Dynamic Island as you near your venue. Apple Watch with watchOS 11 also has this feature available.
Tap to Cash
Tap to Cash is a new feature in iOS 18 that allows users in the U.S. to wirelessly send and receive Apple Cash without other steps, such as needing a phone number.
Tap to Add New Cards
In iOS 18, this is Tap to Provision, allowing users in regions where the feature is supported to add an eligible credit or debit card to the Wallet app by just tapping the card on the back of the iPhone.
Apple Pay on Desktop
Starting with iOS 18, Apple Pay is extending beyond Safari to desktop web browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and more. Now, when you scan a QR code in the Camera app on your iPhone, you can then complete transactions on any website that supports Apple Pay.
Credit Card Rewards
Users of Apple Pay can now redeem rewards and links to installment loan offers in the form of qualified credit and debit cards under iOS 18. This feature initially rolled out in the U.S. with Discover and Synchrony, and globally with issuers supported by Fiserv.
Apple Card Data in Budget Apps
With iOS 18, Apple makes available its FinanceKit API to developers, which will allow finance and budgeting apps to access information related to Apple Card, Apple Card Savings, and Apple Cash balances and transactions, but only with user permission.
