Apple to use 4nm process node for its upcoming iPhone 14

Apple’s newly released iPhone 13 series has been a great success as the device has been enjoying extremely popularity among the company’s customers. And many on the internet have already started to guess as to what the next iPhone from Apple will be bringing to the table. Since it is just the start, there are few details available on what the device will bring to the table in terms of design.

As for the internal specifications, we know from various rumours that Apple’s upcoming iPhone will be housing a new processor which will be potentially more powerful than the current A15 Bionic. Reports indicate that Apple’s iPhone 14 will be housing its A16 Bionic chipset which will be designed using a 4nm process.

According to sources, the iPhone 14 series will be based on a 4nm process and we already know that the current iPhone 13’s A15 Bionic chip is based on the 5nm process node. Apple started using the 5nm process with the A14 Bionic chip in the iPhone 12 lineup and iPad Air however A15 Bionic came with enhancements made throughout for better performance.

A smaller process on the chips results in better batter battery life compared to current-generation chips. And because TSMC from which Apple primarily purchases its process chips, is facing challenges to manufacturing the proposed 3nm chips. Henceforth, it could be the reason why Apple and TSMC are opting to use a 4nm process for A16 Bionic chips in the iPhone 14.

So if Apple decides to stick with 4nm process nodes for next year’s iPhone 14 so we may see the 2023 iPhone models coming with 3nm process chips.
