Apple could soon release its M3 MacBook Air with M3 MacBook pro following suit

Apple may be aiming to unveil the new generation of MacBooks next year. The company’s latest M3 chipset will be used in these forthcoming notebook models, which should boost performance and energy efficiency. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman broke the story. The Cupertino-based company is expected to announce new iPad models later this week, but next-generation MacBooks are expected to arrive next year.

According to Gurman’s report, the M3-powered MacBook will be introduced anytime between spring and summer at the earliest. Gurman’s newest Power On email adds that the 13-inch and 15-inch M3 MacBook Air is presently undergoing engineering verification testing (EVT).

The Apple M3 MacBook Pro models are nearing mass production and are in the last stages of development

“14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips have reached the DVT stage (Design Validation Test),” according to Mark. If this is correct, the new MacBooks might be released in early or late 2024. This is consistent with Apple’s last launch cycle, which began with the M2 Pro and M2 Max powered MacBook Pros in January 2023.

Surprisingly, the news contradicts the speculation of new iPads being released later this week. These new tablets will include minor updates such as the A16 Bionic and M2 processor. However, no significant modifications are planned for the next iPads.

Both Samsung and TSMC were working to enhance the yields of their respective 3nm processes, thus a MacBook Air delay was almost certainly unavoidable. Apple is said to have slashed orders for the M3 due to apparent low demand for iPads and Macs. In that situation, delivering the new MacBook Air family in 2024 will allow TSMC enough time to address its yield concerns while simultaneously creating a large enough time gap to compel users to upgrade, boosting shipping volumes.
