Apple to Launch AirTag 2 in Spring 2025 with Upgrades

Apple’s highly successful item-tracking accessory, the AirTag, is expected to receive an update after more than three years. New AirTag 2 is said to debut with the Spring 2025 iPad Air refresh as well as new M4 MacBook Airs.

Millions of users have been able to use AirTag to locate lost or misplaced items, but Apple is announcing some new features that will help expand the capabilities. AirTags, for example, will now support location sharing with relevant airlines to help locate lost luggage. Apple is expected to announce the AirTag 2 in mid-2025, as per Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard about potential second-generation AirTags. Another analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also said the accessory will come in 2024. However, the analysts are divided as to the time of release. Spring is when Gurman guesses Apple release it, however, the latest news from Kuo said AirTag 2’s mass production has pushed from the last quarter of this year to next year. It was initially thought it had gotten delayed for unknown reasons but this implies the accessory may come sooner than later.

The upcoming AirTag also can be upgraded with a more robust chip that can track location with the innovation slightly better. The device could incorporate the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which was introduced with the iPhone 15 series.
