There have been reports indicating that Apple is contemplating the integration of OLED displays in the upcoming iterations of its iPad mini and iPad Air. This information has emerged from a post on Naver, a Korean social media platform renowned for disseminating Apple-related speculations.

These reports suggest that Apple has initiated discussions with Chinese suppliers, as well as Samsung and LG, regarding the integration of OLED displays in future versions of the iPad mini and iPad Air. The objective is to initiate large-scale production of these components by the end of 2025, with potential product releases in early 2026.

The Upcoming iPad Mini and iPad Air with OLED Display

This development aligns with a recent report from the technology research firm Omdia, which provided insights into Apple’s strategies for procuring iPad display panels. The transition to OLED technology for Apple’s mid-range tablets is seen as part of its broader OLED initiative, set to commence in 2026.

It’s essential to note that Apple’s commitment to incorporating this advanced display technology in its mid-range tablets is not yet set in stone. The company may opt to assess how the market responds to the forthcoming iPad Pro models, expected to feature OLED displays and scheduled for release next year, before making a conclusive decision about the new panels for the 2026 iPad mini and iPad Air.

The report also restates details regarding the rumoured iPad Pro models equipped with OLED displays, slated to make their debut next year. LG and Samsung are expected to supply the panels for these devices. Additionally, Apple is actively exploring additional OLED display suppliers for its iPad, in line with the Naver post’s mention of potential Chinese suppliers.

Notably, the upcoming seventh-generation iPad mini and sixth-generation iPad Air, anticipated for release in the near future, are projected to focus on incremental improvements such as newer processors, rather than major innovations like advanced display technology.
