Apple to bring Mini LED displays to MacBook Air in 2022

Thanks to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino giant will introduce Mini LED displays to MacBook Air after doing it on iPad Pros this year.

In a note to investors, Kuo said Apple’s next-generation MacBook Air would be adopting a 13.3-inch mini LED display, which makes sense as the current MacBook Air sports a 13.3-inch Retina display with standard LED backlighting.

Because of localized dimming, incorporating mini LED technology will help increase contrast ratios, deeper blacks and higher peak brightness. This will be a huge upgrade as already the rumoured 14-inch and 16-unch MacBook Pros coming this year will sport mini LEDs.

Apple’s current 12.9-inch iPad Pro that comes with mini LED technology has 10,000 mini LEDs grouped into 2,596 local dimming zones that give contrast ratios rivaling those of OLED. So, obviously, if you are looking for a MacBook Air, do wait for some time.

In today’s note, Kuo also said Sunrex would be a part of Apple’s supply chain later this year to provide light guides for MacBook Air scissor-switch keyboards. The analyst, who has been accurate with most of the predictions, insists that predicts will release a mini LED-equipped MacBook Air in the middle of 2022.

Currently, the market is drowned with supply shortages. Still, if it improves with time, Kuo believes that the overall MacBook shipments will grow from 20 million to 22 million units in 2022 due to demand for the new MacBook Air.
