According to the latest source, Apple intends to launch a new line of foldable gadgets, one of which will be an iPad. However, the corporation has previously been reported to be working on items with comparable form factors.
While details on the foldable iPad are few, a paywalled story published on DigiTimes and noticed by MacRumors claims that ‘Apple, who is rumoured to have been working on foldable cellphones for several years, apparently is considering extending the effort to the tablet market.’ It takes several hours for DigiTimes to make the complete report available to its public, so we’ll see what else we can glean from it.
It should be noted that Apple continues to use mini-LED technology in its iPad Pro series, and for any tablet to become foldable, it must rely on flexible OLED screens, which have the tolerance to be bent without compromising structural integrity.
Apple is reportedly introducing OLED iPad Pro versions next year, so we are unlikely to see foldable variants for at least a few years.
Even though Samsung has yet to commercially unveil a foldable tablet, it is improbable that Apple will release a foldable iPad before its Korean counterpart. Furthermore, the company places a high priority on the design language of its products, so it will have to focus on making the crease on the foldable iPad nearly imperceptible to the human eye, regardless of which angle it is seen from.
