Apple overtook Samsung to become the top global smartphone player and it has a huge impact on the market

According to market research firm Canalys, Apple surpassed Samsung to reclaim first place in the global smartphone market in Q4 2021.

According to the company, Apple accounted for 22% of global smartphone shipments in the third quarter, owing to strong demand for its iPhone 13 series. After three quarters, Apple has surpassed Samsung as the top vendor.

“In Mainland China, Apple saw record iPhone sales, thanks to aggressive pricing for its flagship smartphones, which kept the value proposition solid. Apple’s supply chain is improving, but it was forced to curtail output in Q4 due to shortages of critical components, and it was unable to satisfy demand “Sanyam Chaurasia, a Canalys analyst, stated.

Samsung was in second place with a 20 percent market share. With a 12 percent market share, Xiaomi remained in third place.

With a market share of 9% and 8%, Oppo and Vivo rounded out the top five with fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Overall shipments, however, increased by only 1% as vendors struggled with supply chain issues amid a spike in Covid-19 instances, according to Canalys.

“The supply chain interruption had the greatest impact on low-end vendors,” said Canalys VP Mobility Nicole Peng.

Component shortages and accompanying constraints, according to Peng, “will not lessen until the second part of 2022.”
