According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is anticipated to unveil its latest iPad Pro and iPad Air models in early May. Initially planned for a March or early April debut the launch was delayed due to software updates and the complex manufacturing processes involved in creating OLED displays for the iPad Pro lineup.
The Upcoming Apple iPad Pro and iPad Air Models
According to Gurman, Apple’s suppliers have ramped up production of the devices hinting at a release. However, the company is still tuning software updates for the iPads. Anticipated enhancements for the iPad Pro models include M3 chips, OLED screens, a sleeker design, an updated rear camera setup, and possible MagSafe wireless charging. Yet challenges with transitioning to OLED panels have caused delays in the launch timeline.
Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants disclosed that Samsung will be the provider of OLED displays for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro while both Samsung and LG will share orders for the 11.1-inch model. This diversification in Apple’s supply chain is aimed at ensuring a stream of components for the devices.
Additionally, Apple is gearing up to unveil two iPad Air variants, including a 12.9-inch version—the first of its kind, in the iPad Air series. These models are expected to showcase the M2 chip and a facing camera optimized for landscape orientation, similar to what’s anticipated in the upcoming iPad Pro models.
Apple is set to introduce an upgraded Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro along with the iPads. The new keyboard will feature a trackpad, a sleek aluminum design, design improvements, and a new Apple Pencil. These accessories are crafted to complement the updated iPad range and improve the user experience.
Contrary to expectations, Gurman suggests that Apple is unlikely to host an event for the new iPads. Instead, the devices are anticipated to be unveiled via a press release on the Apple Newsroom website, similar to the recent launch of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models featuring the M3 chip.
