Last year Apple announced the 5nm based A14 Bionic chip at the iPhone 12 launch event that marked a huge leap in performance, and Apple directly compared its new chipset with its old one. However, we know Apple is still sticking to the 5nm process and so a huge leap in performance over the last gen is not expected naturally.
So, you still have 15 billion transistors packed into the A15 Bionic and there’s a slight improvement on the CPU front. Still being built on TSMC’s advanced N5 process, expect great performance and efficiency from the chip.
You have a 6-core CPU beneath the A15 Bionic where 2 of them are high-performance ones and 4 high-efficiency cores.
Apple promises good multi-core performance thanks to both of the new powerful cores, however, this time Apple compared its CPU performance to be 50% faster than the competition and now whether this means Snapdragon 888 or Dimensity 1200, we don’t know.
Again in terms of GPU, Apple has equipped the A15 Bionic with a 4-core GPU that promises 30% faster graphics performance and we don’t know which chip Apple is comparing with.
Also, Apple has always emphasized the AI performance of a chip and that’s why the chip packs 16-core Neural Engine that helps it to do 15.8 trillion operations per second, helping to make improve subtle things which rely on AI.
Overall, there are very subtle improvements with A15 Bionic but still, it remains the top-notch SoC that has got even better. New features like a new ISP, new display engine, new video encoder & decoder, 2x system cache and other improvements have helped the new A15 Bionic be the best one out there.
