Apple Launches iOS 18.1 Public Beta with Exciting New AI Features

Apple last released iOS 18 for compatible devices earlier this week, it is now available as a public beta in the form of iOS 18. That time period was exclusive to developers only, and the app will now open up for public testing. Apple Intelligence is the generative AI feature that Apple users worldwide dream about. Of course, the entirety of Apple Intelligence likely won’t be available at launch.

The Latest iOS 18.1 Public Beta

This post has been updated with the public beta of iOS 18.1, which is now available for those testing it out, although its beta status means there may be bugs that might make it unsuitable for daily usage Associated features will initially be available in the US English language, with support for additional languages slated by the end of the year at the earliest.

This official rollout doesn’t come with all of the features available. Here are things we can expect from the first set of features, including phone call and audio note transcription in the voice memo iPhone app, AI writing tools including proofreading, rewriting, and summarising, email prioritization of smart replies, and notification summary containing photo cleanup.

Users can also invite a photo prompt that allows them to create memories through text. Meanwhile, a redesigned light-up Siri allows us to type our requests. In 2022, new features will include ChatGPT integration, Genmoji for custom emojis, Image Playground to generate images, and Siri to understand personal context.

To access the Apple Intelligence features with the iOS 18.1 update, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select the iOS 18 public beta option. You’ll soon find the iOS 18.1 update available on your device. To enable the Apple Intelligence features, navigate to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Join the Apple Intelligence waitlist. Compatible devices include the new iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, along with iPads powered by the M1 chip or later, and Macs with the M1 chip or newer.
