Apple is reportedly looking to shift its iPad lineup of tablets to OLED panels, a latest report now indicates that the company is looking to work on iPad Pro prototypes that feature OLED over LCD panels.

Apple will source its OLED panels from Samsung and LG:

Previous reports have suggested that Apple will be sourcing its OLED panels for the iPad from LG and Samsung. The orders will be for 11″ and 12.9″ iPad Pro variants that were expected to launch around 2024. As per ETNews, the Cupertino giant is looking to produce the final builds of iPad Pro prototypes with OLED panels that have been sourced from ‘major domestic display partners.’

Samsung and LG are likely to be suppliers given their experience and history of doing business with Apple. The report also indicates that the OLED panels for iPad will result in Samsung and LG making some significant investments into new small and medium-sized OLED panel producing facilities.

The next-gen tablets will offer a lighter design along with better picture quality. The iPhone maker will stick to the dry etching process for iPad production for the first time ever due to the use of OLED panels.

In order to simplify this, the technology will be used to remove unwanted parts from a device using chemical technology. When used on the display, it leads to the panels becoming much thinner and lighter. The company has not made use of this process in recent iPhones as they have OLED panels. These devices are lighter and thinner in comparison to LCD panels and in addition to this, the use of this technology also makes the production process more expensive which makes the end product costlier.
