Base Apple iPad to reportedly Switch to USB-C and get an A14 Bionic Upgrade

The entry-level iPad from Apple could get a much-needed technology upgrade. According to 9to5Mac sources, Apple’s next basic tablet will switch from a Lightning port to USB-C when it releases in the fall. To boost the speed of wired data transfers, you could plug directly into displays and other peripherals, just like most recent iPads.

There are also signs of a broader performance improvement. The new entry-level iPad, according to rumours, would have a larger screen with the same resolution as the iPad Air. You wouldn’t have the same visual quality as the Air, but you wouldn’t have to compromise on display size to save money.

Apple will also integrate the A14 Bionic chip from the fourth-generation Air in the iPad, as well as 5G capability for cellular variants, according to the sources.

Apple hasn’t said whether the iPad’s design will be updated, which may include support for the Magic Keyboard or the second-generation Pencil

However, a makeover of the slate would not be surprising. The iPad’s base model is the last to include Lightning, a home button, and other features that have been around for at least a decade. If the rumors are true, the new version of the Air will bring it into the current day while still giving users a reason to spend a premium for it.
