Apple has announced iOS 18, the next major software upgrade for the iPhone, at its WWDC keynote. Software VP Craig Federighi showcased numerous enhancements to Apple’s apps and the operating system, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence and generative AI features.
iOS 18 with New Control Centre and AI features details
Similar to updates for the iPad and Mac, iPhones will now incorporate Apple Intelligence when iOS 18 is released this fall. Apple promises these new AI features will simplify tasks like sending emails, saving time, and enhancing self-expression with user-friendly prompts.
You can move apps around on your home screen as you choose. You may even change the tinted color of app icons to match your wallpaper or choose a preferred hue for organizing purposes. App icons now appear differently in Dark Mode.
In addition to being customisable, Control Center now supports multiple screens. For their apps, developers will be able to add controls. Control Center widgets are resizable. You may also swap out the buttons for the flashlight and camera on the home screen for other controls.
The option to lock particular apps with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID is another feature of privacy controls. It won’t display sensitive data from those apps in other locations if it’s locked.
Topographic maps are being added to Maps so that you can store them to your phone and see them offline. To exchange money with other iPhone users easily, the Wallet app adds a Tap to Cash functionality that functions similarly to AirDrop.
On the Apple iPhone, game mode will be available to reduce background activities and improve performance.
Apple reveals that text in Messages can now be bolded, underlined, and italicized. With iMessage, scheduled messaging is possible. There are three new text effects: bounce, shake, and jitter. iPhone 14 and later models allow satellite messaging.
Updates to Mail include automatic categorization, which has been a feature of Gmail for years. Mail may also retrieve flight data, making everything available in a single location.
