Apple at its ‘Far Out’ event on Wednesday launched its second-generation AirPods Pro. They’re available for preorder on Friday and will ship starting Sept. 23 for $249 (£249, AU$399).

They were announced at Apple’s September event alongside the new series of Apple Watches and contain many new features thanks to the inclusion of the new Apple H2 wireless chip. Let’s have a look at its detailed features and specifications.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Specifications

The new earphones offer support for Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio with head tracking, just like their predecessor. The AirPods Pro (2nd generation) features a driver with improved audio quality, along with a force sensor for pressure controls located along the earphones’ stems.

Among the highlights of the new true wireless noise-canceling earbuds is the ability to take a picture of your ears using the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone to create a profile for personalized spatial audio, as well as an advanced computational audio algorithm that eliminates twice as much noise as the original AirPods Pro.

On the connectivity front, the new AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) features Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, according to the Cupertino firm. They will also feature support for skin detection via a sensor, to identify when the earbuds are in a user’s ear to automatically start or stop media playback.

Battery life is now up to 6 hours on a single charge (up from 5) and the case gives you an additional four charges. Additionally, the case now has a built-in speaker, which allows it to play sounds for use with Apple’s precision Find My feature.

Apple says that the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) offers up to 6 hours (33 percent extra) of listening time compared to their predecessor. Users can get up to 30 hours of battery life, which is an increase of 6 hours, with a full charge. These earphones can be charged via a Lightning cable, wirelessly with Qi-certified chargers, and with Apple’s proprietary MagSafe charging protocol, according to the company.

The new earbuds will cost $249, and you can order them on September 9th. They’ll be available on September 23rd. The updated AirPods Pro will also come with new extra-small ear tips, which could be a better fit for some ears.
