According to a new report from DigiTimes, the company is looking forward to significantly improving the chip manufacturing process because its supplier TSMC will begin producing 2nm devices as early as 2025.
Apple riding on success of TSMC in producing 2nm process nodes by 2025
Apple’s iPhones and Macs currently use CPUs manufactured by TSMC’s 5nm technology, which include the A15 Bionic and M-series, respectively. Aside from that, TSMC intends to start mass manufacturing of its 3nm chips later this year. With 2nm chips expected in 2025, we expect Apple to stay with 3nm processors for at least another two years. If Apple really intend to use 2nm semiconductors in its products by 2025, it will be one of the first to do so.
TSMC has set a timetable to move its 2nm GAA process to production in 2025 while commercializing its 3nm FInFET process with improved yield rates in the second half of 2022, with Apple and Intel among the first clients to adopt both nodes, further consolidating its dominance in the advanced foundry sector, according to industry sources.
Apple is also expected to use 3nm CPUs in its iPad Pro devices, which are expected to be released later this year. Apple is expected to release a new iPad Pro model featuring an M2 chip, but no specific information have been released.
