Anwar Ali could be on his way to East Bengal after spending a loan spell with their arch-rivals, Mohun Bagan SG. The defender was signed in the summer of 2023, but has reportedly returned to his parent club Delhi FC.
And according to reports from TOI’s Marcus Mergulhao, he has written an email to the Mohun Bagan SG hierarchy asking for his loan to be terminated. However, the situation will have to be evaluated since the Mariners can’t allow him to leave in the middle of his contract.
Anwar Ali likely to join East Bengal in the coming weeks
Anwar Ali will join East Bengal permanently from Delhi FC IF the termination of loan agreement between Anwar, Delhi FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant is accepted by AIFF. This case will certainly be decided by the Player Status Committee (PSC). #IndianFootball #ISL #Transfers

When Anwar Ali joined Mohun Bagan last summer, he was signed on a four year loan. While FIFA’s 2022 rulings on loan moves restricts them to only one year, the AIFF has its own restrictions on domestic transfers, which further complicates the situation.
The case will now be heard in the Player Status Committee, and if an agreement in favour of Ali is reached in the hearing, he could be on his way to East Bengal.
As things stand, he has been offered a five-year contract by the Torch Bearers as he wants a permanent transfer. And if the move does go through, East Bengal will finally have the missing piece to complete their team for the coming season and emerge as title contenders on paper.
