Manchester United winger Antony has been charged with domestic abuse by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin. He allegedly headbutted Cavallin on January 15 in a hotel room, which caused her a head injury that needed medical attention. The allegations also mentioned that he punched her in the chest which caused a rupture in her breast implant.
The footballer has denied these allegations before in June and once again came out with a statement refuting the charges. The Greater Manchester Police have mentioned that they are aware of the situation, but did not choose to comment further. An investigation over the matter is ongoing in Sao Paulo as well as in Manchester.
Antony has also been dropped from the Brazilian national team, with Gabriel Jesus taking his place instead.
Manchester United comment on Antony domestic abuse allegations
“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries”.
“Pending further information, Man United will be making no further comments on this situation”.
“As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting have on survivors of abuse,” a statement from United read.
“I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made,” Antony’s statement in response to the allegations read.
“I trust that the ongoing police investigations will demonstrate the truth about my innocence.”
Manchester United recently decided against reintegrating Mason Greenwood into the squad after rape and assault charges against him. And now, they have a fresh problem to deal with away from the pitch in the Brazilian’s case.
