However, it was clear even before the transfer window started that Rudiger will leave the club on a free transfer as his contract with Chelsea ended this summer and the duo didn’t agree to any contract extension.
Antonio Rudiger was one of the fastest Premier League defenders with good defending abilities and physical qualities. He is also good with the ball at his feet. Many clubs were interested in him, more so he was available on a free transfer. Rudiger chose to join European giants Real Madrid.
Now, Antonio Rudiger’s agent Saif Rubie has revealed that he rejected clubs who were offering him twice as much as Real Madrid’s offer but still he chose to join the Los Blancos. Real Madrid’s offer was the lowest financial offer Rudiger received.
Antonio Rudiger rejected clubs offering him double salary to sign for Real Madrid
Antonio Rudiger’s agent Saif Rubie told talkSPORT, via Marca: “Let me confirm this, live on air, the Real Madrid deal was the smallest deal on offer.”
“There was a club in England offering almost double the amount and a club in Europe doubling the amount. I’m not going to discuss the specifics. Everyone knows there was teams interested in this player. He was one of the best in the world.”
Rubie also revealed that Chelsea almost made no effort to keep the German at the club. He said: “What if I told you Chelsea, and the old regime, basically made next to no effort to keep the player.”
“At the time he was very happy to stay and potentially be the captain of the club. He was offered a contract that was half the amount Romelu Lukaku was earning. You are talking about trading in the margins.”
