According to sources in France, a move between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid is progressing ‘very quickly,’ with the Nou Camp flop linked with either a £42 million return or a loan deal on deadline day. Antoine Griezmann is a French footballer who plays forward for Barcelona in La Liga and the France national team.
Griezmann has not given up hope of returning to Atletico Madrid after a swap deal including Saul Niguez fell through earlier this summer due to Barcelona refusing to pay a portion of the forward’s salaries. That trade has no possibility of being revived, and any notion of a Joao Felix swap has been put to rest.
According to L’Equipe, the Spanish heavyweights are discussing a £42 million deal, with a loan move being considered if Atletico fails to come up with the cash in a dramatic turn of events on deadline day.
Since joining the Nou Camp for £108 million from Diego Simeone’s side two years ago, the 30-year-old has failed to produce, scoring 35 goals in 102 outings, a poor return given his high price tag.
Griezmann has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp despite the departure of superstar Lionel Messi this summer. Griezmann might be returning to Atletico Madrid in a swap deal with a different player, Portugal international Felix, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was reportedly trying to find a solution for the 21-year-old, who has progressed at Atletico Madrid after signing for £114 million in 2019. However, Atletico Madrid refused to let go of their mega-money signing, and the transaction fell through.
Griezmann has had a difficult time at Barcelona, with many fans disliking the French Striker. Barca fans booed the 30-year-old during Sunday’s 2-1 win over Getafe, a move that perplexed manager Ronald Koeman.
