Barcelona and [Atletico Madrid](https://technosports.co.in/2022/10/02/koke-becomes-most-capped-player-of-all-time-for-atletico-madrid/) have finalised their agreement for the permanent transfer of Antoine Griezmann. The player initially joined on a two-year loan with a buy option if he played a certain number of minutes.

The initial agreement the two clubs had was for a fee around €40 million, but it has now been renegotiated. Atletico Madrid will only pay €20 million plus €2 million in add-ons for the striker, who now gets off [Barcelona’s books](https://www.capology.com/club/barcelona/salaries/) for good.

Atletico were not willing to pay a sum as high as €40 million for Antoine Griezmann, which is why they only played him from the 60th minute in games. Only recently did he earn a starting place, when the two clubs entered a negotiation to make the transfer permanent.

And now, he has signed a permanent contract with Atletico Madrid until 2026. The Frenchman has also agreed a lower salary to help the team sign him. Now, he can start games as per Diego Simeone’s needs.

Griezmann’s new permanent deal with Atletico will run until he is 35 years old. Which means that he might call it quits on his career at the Wanda Metropolitano, where he has spent his best years. It now remains to be seen whether Atletico can put together a better run of form than they have since the start of the season.
