Antoine Griezmann is set to stay at Atletico Madrid for the foreseeable future, with the player ruling out an exit. The Frenchman has had a remarkable season in La Liga this past season, finishing with the most goal contributions in the entire league at 31. The forward scored 15 goals and provided 16 assists in 38 games in 2022/23, which is a remarkable feat.
During the initial part of the season, Diego Simeone used Griezmann exclusively as a supersub, and the player made a considerable impact off the bench. The main reason behind this was the clause inserted in the loan deal struck with Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid would have to sign him permanently for around €40 million if he ended up playing a certain number of minutes. And Simeone’s usage of Griezmann ended up angering Barcelona, who pursued a case of a breach of contract.
The two clubs eventually agreed on a permanent transfer by reaching a mutual agreement over a €20 million fee and Griezmann has been started regularly ever since. And now, he has ended speculation over a possible exit from Atletico by confirming that he wants to stay with them.
Antoine Griezmann ends future speculation by committing to Atletico Madrid
“I am very happy at Atletico. My main objective is to win La Liga with them because I’ve never won it, and I’ve been here 12 years, and why not do big things in the Champions League as well? I feel good here, and so do my family. There won’t be a change,” he said.
In spite of the €25 million release clause in his contract, the player is determined to continue with the Rojiblancos. As a result, even if any clubs come forward to sign Antoine Griezmann, it is unlikely that he will want to leave considering that he already has his heart set with his current club.
