Manchester United forward Anthony Martial wants to leave the club in January, according to his agent, Philippe Lamboley. The main reason behind him wanting to leave his due to a lack of playing time.
With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Donny Van de Beek seemingly ahead in the pecking order, it is difficult to see the Frenchman gain any game time under Ralf Rangnick.
“Anthony wishes to leave the club in January, Lamboley told Sky Sports News.
“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”
Anthony Martial’s agent drops statement about leaving Man Utd
Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from Monaco in 2015. He has at least three years left on his current contract with the club. The last extension was signed in 2019, and the option for a further year was included in the contract signed.
Barcelona were rumoured to be interested in the player, previously. But, their attention has now turned to Ferran Torres as the top target for the winter transfer window. As a result, Martial will need a club to come in and sign him in the January window. He was signed for £36 million six years ago, with the transfer fee rising to £55 million.
So, with time left on his current deal as well, it is unlikely that Manchester United will let the 26-year-old leave on the cheap. Ralf Rangnick, on the other hand, has refused to comment on the transfer window just yet. But if Anthony Martial is to leave, the move will require approval from the interim manager.
