Ansu Fati was briefly on the transfer list for Barcelona this summer

Barcelona considered selling teenage sensation Ansu Fati this summer to try and register Lionel Messi when he was still available to renew his contract with the club.

The instruction apparently came from Lionel Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi. Joan Laporta was asked by Messi Sr. to part with Fati so that the Barcelona captain could be a part of the team once again. Selling Fati would’ve not only allowed Barcelona to register Messi, but also make space for new signings due to the income generated.

Laporta took up the idea initially, but later decided against selling Fati. The cons of selling the youngster were much more than the pros.

Koeman anxiously awaits the return of Ousmane Dembélé and Ansu Fati. He expects the duo to give the team everything they’re missing: speed, verticality, 1v1 dribbling, and goals.

As a result, Messi could not renew his contract with the Spanish club and he later signed with PSG as a free agent. Messi has signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 club, with the option for another year at the end of the two.

With La Pulga leaving Camp Nou after establishing himself as the biggest legend in the club’s history, Ansu Fati has been chosen as the heir to his iconic number 10 shirt. The youngster is a part of Barcelona’s long term plans and has big shoes to fill in when it comes to the number 10 kit.

Fati has been out injured since early last season, and will finally return to action in the upcoming weeks. There are rumours that he will be a part of the team when they face Cadiz, but it remains to be seen how the management ease the player into regular matches.
