Match 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 featured some outstanding events of historical significance as Delhi Capitals’ Anrich Nortje bowled the fastest delivery ever in the history of the IPL.

During the third over of Royal’s run-chase, Nortje steamed in with a ball of 156.22 kmph to Jos Buttler. Interestingly, Buttler used that pace against Nortje as he smartly scooped that for four towards fine leg.

Nortje, however, steamed in to ball the second-fastest delivery (155.21 kmph) in the history of the IPL, in the very next ball after he bowled the fastest delivery. This commitment to rhythm paid off as he was able to clean bowled Buttler. He also bowled the third-fastest delivery (154.74) of the IPL 2020 which became the fourth-fastest overall by breaking the record of Dale Steyn (154.8).

Speaking in an interview, the quickie said he had no idea that he broke the record for the fastest delivery.

Nortje revealed that he had no idea that he made a record!

“I heard about it afterwards. I did not know about it at the time,” Anrich told Shikhar Dhawan in a video posted by IPLT20.com. ” I have been working really hard getting my pace right up there. Been working on my braced leg and my front arm.. simple stuff. Need the attitude to get some pace behind it but still need to get it in the right area.”

He also explained his thought process while bowling those two speedy deliveries.

“Yeah, the battle against Buttler was interesting. I know he plays the scoop shots, but when he played the first one, it took me by surprise,” he said. “I did not think he would do it again, but he played the shot once again on the next delivery. He played really well, but I stuck to my strength, obviously we saw how the wicket was playing so I was trying to use the wicket and get some variation.”

Nortje has had an excellent IPL for Delhi Capitals so far that too coming as a late replacement for Chris Woakes. He has shown tremendous improvement from his debut in October last year. He stands as the 7th highest wicket-taker in IPL 2020 with 10 wickets.
