Angel Di Maria has confirmed that he will retire from the Argentina national team after the Copa America 2024 final in Miami. The winger announced his decision before the tournament began, and has now reiterated that he will play his last game in just a couple of days.
The 36-year-old helped his country win the 2021 Copa America by scoring the winning goal in the final against Brazil. His contribution in attack was also invaluable in helping the country win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“I always gave my life for this shirt. There were times when it did not touch me and lately it has. I am grateful to everyone who supported me.
“The previous generation taught me about sacrifice and not giving up. This one gave me everything I was missing. It is difficult to make it. People are used to it, but it’s not easy. I’m not ready for my last game with the national team, but it’s time”.
Fans have often held Angel Di Maria as one of the most underrated players of his generation. The veteran has scored 31 goals in 144 games for the Albiceleste since making his debut in 2008, including one at Copa America 2024.
