Real Madrid are close to extending Andriy Lunin’s contract with the club until 2028. The Ukrainian has stepped up in Thibaut Courtois’ absence this season, and has been incredible between the sticks. He has helped Los Blancos take the lead in the LaLiga title race, and also make it to the Champions League semifinal.
The club signed Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea as a backup option in light of Courtois’ injury, but Lunin has outperformed the Spaniard and has cemented himself as Ancelotti’s first choice.

The goalkeeper recently had a standout performance in the quarter finals of the Champions League against Manchester City, helping Real Madrid win the penalty shootout.
The 25-year-old’s current deal runs out in 2025, and Madrid have acted swiftly to tie him down to the club for longer. As a result, he could be the club’s first choice once Courtois moves on in the long-term. But, time will tell if he is satisfied with the lack of game time once the Belgian returns in the coming weeks.
Lunin has been vocal about his love for Real Madrid, and his performances have shown that he is a top keeper when the time calls. However, consistency is the name of the game and will determine how his future plays out.
