Brazil have won the 2023 Sudamericano Sub-20, defeating Uruguay 2-0 in their final game to lift the trophy.
The standout performers for the team were Athletico Paranaense striker Vitor Roque, who scored six goals during the tournament. Chelsea’s new January signing Andrey Santos was the other breakout star from the competition, scoring six goals from midfield and leading the team as its captain.
Andrey Santos wins Sudamericano Sub-20 with Brazil
The former Vasco da Gama player has had a very impressive run with Brazil’s youth team in the Sudamericano. His presence in midfield was simply unmatched, and he showed his goalscoring instinct as well with some very well taken attempts.
The teenager has attracted comparisons to fellow Brazilian Casemiro, since he can provide a similar intensity in midfield. Now, he is expected to link up with Chelsea’s first team once his work permit has been generated.
There were rumours that Andrey Santos would leave on loan in case there were complications with his documents. However, Chelsea are very close to getting the formalities wrapped up and have Andrey Santos fly out to Cobham to join them.
Based on the performances he has shown thus far, we can expect at least a cameo from him in the first team alongside Enzo Fernandez. His physical prowess will be very well suited to the English top flight, and he could prove to be a very shrewd investment for Todd Boehly’s big-spending Blues down the line.
